blue ginger
106 8th ave.
new york, ny 10011

i have walked past this place a hundred times over the past few years i've lived in new york. i don't think i've ever really noticed the place until the other night. as i walked by—i saw this couple sitting in the window seat just as the waiter was bringing out their tray of food. the presentation was gorgeous. so—i made a mental note to go back and try it for myself.

well—last night i did try it. and i have to say—not too shabby. we started out with organic sake and had the typical edamame and shrimp shumai for appetizers. from there we went to their 'specialty' maki (rolls) on the menu. we picked 4 different kinds and had a selection of sashimi as well.

i'm not a huge fan of eel on anything. one of the rolls we got was eel and mango with cucumber. let me tell you—it was fantastic! the other surprise came in the form of a peanut and avocado roll. it was pretty darn good for an 'unusual' combination.

i'd go back. the price—a little higher than the normal places i go to but i think the quality made up for the price in this case.

oh—the staff—very friendly and very helpful.
